Rockstar Games’ popular games GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 have been hit by cyberattacks in recent days. The disruptions are thought to be due to DDoS attacks against the company’s new anti-cheat measures. The company has managed to contain the attacks, although it has yet to make a statement.
Rockstar Games has the situation under control for GTA 5
Last week, Rockstar rolled out its Battle-Eye anti-cheat system in an effort to strengthen fair play standards in GTA Online. While many players felt the move was a long-awaited step, these new restrictions are bad news for modders and those using older or lower-end devices.
According to cybersecurity platform CyberInsider, the attacks began over the weekend and caused connectivity issues across all platforms for GTA 5 Online and Red Dead Online. CyberInsider notes that the group carrying out the attacks was protesting the deployment of BattlEye. It also notes a Twitter user’s post that said , “Expect more DDoS attacks in the coming days.”
Rockstar is no stranger to such attacks. It has previously encountered similar problems in GTA Online. In particular, the massive GTA 6 leak in September 2022 caused the company quite a headache. At that time, a large amount of information about the game’s early development stages was leaked to the internet.
